100. 5 Ways To Walk By Faith (Not Sight) When Anxiety Takes Over

Alexandra Graff-Alvarez

When anxiety takes over, how do you trust God—especially when the outcome is uncertain?

In this episode of Curious for Christ, we’re unpacking five practical ways to walk by faith, not sight. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, afraid, or stuck trying to control what you can’t, this is your invitation to breathe, let go, and trust the One who sees the bigger picture.

Scriptures Mentioned:

  • 2 Corinthians 5:7
  • 1 Peter 5:7
  • Proverbs 3:5
  • Hebrews 13:5
  • Psalm 119:105
  • Isaiah 26:3
  • Psalm 46:10
  • Hebrews 11:1

5 Ways to Walk by Faith (Not Sight):

1. Be Honest with God

“Cast all your anxiety on Him…” – 1 Peter 5:7

Start by naming your fears. You don’t have to hide your struggles. Bring them into God’s presence—He cares.

2. Lean on His Promises, Not Your Perspective

“Trust in the Lord… and lean not on your own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5

Anxiety grows when we try to figure it all out. Write down a promise from Scripture and hold it close.

3. Take the Next Right Step

“Your word is a lamp to my feet…” – Psalm 119:105

Faith isn’t about the full plan—it’s about the next obedient step. Just one is enough for today.

4. Stay in the Word

“You will keep in perfect peace…” – Isaiah 26:3

Five minutes in Scripture can re-center your soul. Open to Psalms. Reflect on who God is.

5. Let Go of the Outcome

“Be still and know…” – Psalm 46:10

Faith means trusting God’s goodness, even when life doesn’t go how you hoped. Surrender is strength.

If you're curious about exploring your faith and finding purpose, then you've come to the right place. Hi, I'm Alexandra. I too felt lost and sure of the direction my life was taking. I yearned to understand my purpose and have someone guide me, but I kept telling myself I was too busy. The timing wasn't right, and my lack of clarity prevented me from being consistent until I found Christ. He brought peace into my life and revealed the way to find purpose by anchoring myself. In him. In this podcast, we'll journey together exploring the Bible to gain a deeper understanding of him and cultivate your own personal relationship with Christ. So open up your Bible, put in those earbuds and listen up because God is speaking to you. He's making everything new and you don't wanna miss it. Let's get started. Second Corinthians five, verse seven says, for we walk by faith, not by sight. That verse is bold. It's beautiful, but let's be honest, it's hard. Most of us want clarity, control, and a plan that makes sense. But faith doesn't offer us a map. It offers us a person. God himself, and here's what I found. The more we clinging to control, the more anxiety takes root. But when we release the outcome and begin to trust, even when we can't see the road ahead, we begin to breathe again. We begin to live. And actually a quick reality check. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health struggle in the United States, especially for women. Nearly one in three will experience one in their lifetime. And many more live in quiet, persistent worry every single day. But what if anxiety isn't just something to eliminate, but something that reveals where we are carrying a burden? We were never meant to bear alone. Let's talk about how we can shift from fear to faith even when nothing feels certain so five ways to walk by faith. Number one, get honest about anxiety. One Peter five. Seven says, cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Faith doesn't mean pretending to be strong. It starts with getting real with yourself and with God. Tell him, here's what I'm worried about. Here's what I don't understand, or here's what it feels like. Too much faith doesn't silence your emotions. It invites them into God's presence where healing can begin, and also, let's think about it. Anxiety loses power when it's brought into the light. So bring it to God, lean into it. Your emotions. They don't define you, they're just emotions. You have emotions, but you are God's daughter. So it's okay to look into those feelings, those emotions that you have. Number two, start with God's promises, not your perspective. Proverbs three, verse five says, trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Anxiety often whispers, you're on your own. You're not safe. You can't handle this, but God's word reminds us of something better that we're not alone. That we're carried, that we're loved. So try this. Write down one promise of God today and place it somewhere visible. Start with this one, Hebrews 13, verse five. I'll never leave you or forsake you, so when your mind spins, let his truth interrupt it. Number three, take the next right step. Psalm one 19 verse 1 0 5 says, your word is a lab to my feet and a light to my path. You don't need a 10 year plan. You just need the next obedient step. So ask, what's one thing I can do in Faith today? Maybe it's opening your Bible, making a phone call, going for a walk, saying yes or no. And so think about it. Faith is rarely flashy. It's faithful. Number four, stay anchored in scripture, Isaiah 26, verse three says, you will keep in perfect peace. Those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you. Even five minutes in God's word can anchor your anxious mind. Start small, open to Psalms, read Hebrews 11, and ask, what does this reveal about who God is? The more you fix your mind on him, the less space anxiety has to speak. Peace comes not from having the answers, but from knowing the one who holds them. Does that make sense? And then number five, and that's a big one, so we are gonna spend a little time on this. Let go of the outcome. Psalm 46, verse 10 says, be still and know that I am God. This is where it gets real. Letting go of the outcome doesn't mean we stop caring. It means we release the illusion that we're in control of how it has to go. It's saying, God, I want your will more than my own. And that's not easy, especially when life hasn't turned out the way you hoped. So let's go even deeper. Because you may be asking me, but what about disappointment? What about when you've been disappointed again and again? What about the prayers that seemed unanswered? The dreams that didn't come to pass, the hope that quietly faded disappointment can be holy ground because it reveals where our faith may have been tied more to a result than to a relationship. So let me talk about the role of disappointment in trust. Disappointment. Doesn't say anything about who you are because again, your identity is rooted in Christ. You are God's daughter. Disappointment reveals our limits. It forces us to confront the gap between what we expected and what God allowed, and in that sacred space, we're faced with a choice. Will I let this disappointment harden me or humble me? Will I retreat from God or run to him? Disappointment is not the enemy of faith. It's often the furnace where faith is refined, and so if you feel disappointment, you can be encouraged because God is refining your face. So there's an opportunity there to dive deeper and find your limits. What is it that you expected? So that you can be open to God's greater plan for you, but you have to reach that limit. You have to go there, and you don't have to be afraid because the spirit that we have in us is a spirit of power, not of timidity of love and of self-control so you may ask when things never worked out before. Why would I trust now? Yeah, this is the question of a weary heart, and I've been there, my friend, so I'm not saying it's you and it's not me. It's totally me And I need to hear this as well because that those questions are the question of a heart that tried, that hoped that maybe even obeyed and even still. Ended up hurt. So what's the difference now? Why would it work now? The difference is not again, in the outcome. The difference is in what or who? Your faith. My faith is anchored in maybe before my faith was in the formula. If I do this, then God will do that. But mature faith says even if things don't go the way I hoped, you are still good. Still faithful still with me, and I'm your daughter. Hebrews 11 verse one. So let's take a deeper look in here now, faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This verse isn't about being certain of the result. It's about being confident in God's character, even when the outcome is still unseen. That's why Abraham and Moses, Sarah and Joseph are remembered, not because they always got what they wanted, but because they trusted God himself. They didn't anchor their faith in what would happen. They anchored it in who he is. So ask yourself gently, is my faith rooted in God's character or a desired outcome? What disappointments might God be inviting me to surrender? Can I let this be a doorway to deeper trust? So to tonight, my friend, I invite you. Before you fall asleep whisper this prayer, God, I release what I can't control. Even when I don't understand the outcome, I choose to trust who you are. Help me rest in you. So that is it, my friend. Let me repeat again, the five ways to walk by faith. Number one, get honest about your anxiety. Number two, start with God's promises, not your perspective. Number three, take the next right step. Number four, stay anchored in scripture. And number five, let go of the outcome. Thank you so much for joining me today, and if this episode encouraged you, would you take a moment to share it with a friend or leave a quick review?
