87. When Success Feels Overwhelming: 3 Simple Ways to Trust God

Alexandra Graff-Alvarez

Sometimes, we feel overwhelmed when things aren’t going as expected, and we struggle to understand what God is doing. But interestingly, overwhelm can also arise from good things happening. The truth is, everything God gives us is good—even if we don’t always see it that way.

Today, I am exploring this idea: Sometimes, God answers our prayers, but we still don’t experience peace...

What You’ll Learn in Today’s Episode:
• How to embrace God’s blessings without feeling overwhelmed
• The difference between trusting your fears vs. trusting in God’s peace
• The importance of taking things one step at a time with God’s guidance

In This Episode, We Discuss:
• Proverbs 10:22: God’s blessings bring richness without sorrow
• Matthew 6:34: Trust God with today, and don’t worry about tomorrow
• Psalm 127:1: You don’t have to carry everything alone—God builds the house

3 Easy Steps to Trust God When You Feel Overwhelmed

- Ask God, “What is today’s assignment?”

- Speak truth when fear creeps in.

- End each day with gratitude – “Lord, thank You for today. I trust You with tomorrow.”

Scriptures Mentioned:
• Proverbs 10:22 – “The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.”
• Matthew 6:34 – “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.”

Hi, friend, and welcome back to Curious for Christ. Today, I want to talk about something I've been wrestling with, which is stepping into God's blessings without feeling completely overwhelmed. And maybe you've been there too. You're excited about what God is doing. I mean, you've prayed for it for a long time. And then at the same time, when it's right there, the weight of responsibility, the fear of the unknown, and the what ifs start creeping in. What if I can't handle it? What if success changes things in ways I didn't expect? What if I lose something precious in the process? If you've ever felt that tension between opportunity and anxiety, this episode is for you. We are going to dig into what's really behind that overwhelm and talk about three simple steps to enter God's peace and walk in trust. It's time to reframe our thoughts and hold on to God's truth. So let's dive in. Welcome to Curious for Christ. Do you ever find yourself lying awake at night, wondering about God's plan for your life? Maybe you wake up with big dreams, but feel unsure where to start or what your next step should be. If you're curious about exploring your faith and finding purpose, then you've come to the right place. Hi, I'm Alexandra. I too felt lost, unsure of the direction my life was taking. I yearned to understand my purpose and have someone guide me. But I kept telling myself I was too busy, the timing wasn't right, and my lack of clarity prevented me from being consistent, until I found Christ. He brought peace into my life and revealed the way to find purpose, by anchoring myself In this podcast, we'll journey together exploring the Bible to gain a deeper understanding of Him and cultivate your own personal relationship with Christ. So open up your Bible, put in those earbuds and listen up because God is speaking to you. He is making everything new and you don't want to miss it. Let's get started. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed when things aren't going the way we expect, and we struggle to understand what God is doing. But what's interesting is that overwhelm can also arise from good things happening. Well, the truth is, everything God gives us is good, even if we don't always see it that way. But today, I want to focus on this idea, that sometimes God answers our prayers, But we still don't experience peace. So let me unpack that today. First off, provision is not a burden. It's a blessing. When God opens doors, they are not meant to crush us. They are meant to elevate us. But sometimes, instead of receiving them with joy, we feel this heavy weight, almost like we have to prove ourselves worthy of the blessing. I've been a Christian. Feeling that lately. Stepping into a real estate niche that combines my love for luxury and art and international connections. I've been praying for a long time for that. I've been prepared for that and it's exciting but it's also stretching me. It feels like an identity shift. Almost like a reframing of who I am as I step into something new. Maybe you can relate in your own life, when God gives you something, do you receive it fully, or do you start doubting whether you can handle it? Proverbs 10, verse 22 says, the blessing of the Lord makes rich and he adds no sorrow with it. God's blessings don't come with strings attached. They come with grace. If we feel burdened, it might be because we're taking on more than God is asking of us. Or we are believing some lies, or we are not surrendered. We don't see that God is the one that actually is bringing and doing all of these things for us. We're trying to control the outcomes instead of walking in trust. A second point that I want to make is, fear is not a good guide. Peace is. Lately I've been battling with some real fears. And I've had to look at them in the eyes. I've been, just struggling with all the what ifs. What if my husband's health gets worse? What if my son does not want to know God? What if my daughter is overwhelmed by life and I mislead her? These fears feel so real, but When I take a step back, I realize they are not my reality. They're just what ifs that the enemy uses to steal my peace. And I have to be aware of those. I can't just run away or dismiss them. I have to face them. And then I'm reminded of God's truth, Matthew 6, verse 34, that says, Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Right now, today, God has given me everything I need. My husband is here, my son is still growing into his faith, my daughter is learning how to navigate life. Today, they are in God's hands, and that's where I have to leave them. Lastly, you don't have to carry this alone. If I'm honest, and I catch myself, I sometimes feel like I have to somehow hold everything together. The business, the family, the next steps. Like God is not even there in the first place. But, scripture reminds us that God is the one establishing the work of our hands. Yes, we partner with him, but we are never meant to carry it all alone. Psalm 127, verse 1, Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. So, I'm shifting my mindset. Instead of trying to plan everything perfectly, I'm asking God, what is today's assignment? Not tomorrow's, not next week's, just today. And this leads me to three easy steps to taking it easy one day at a time with peace. Number one, ask God. What is today's assignment? Maybe today's assignment is sending one email or making an important phone call. Maybe one key connection you need to make or simply taking a deep breath and trusting that God is working behind the scenes. And that's enough. Number two. When fear creeps in, speak truth. When anxiety rises, I remind myself of what's true. Proverbs 16, verse 9 says, God is establishing my steps. Deuteronomy 31, verse 8 says, I will not fear because God goes before me. And Jeremiah 29, 11 says that God's plans for me are good and they're not meant to harm me. Number three, end each day with gratitude. And that is something I need to do more regularly. I'm guilty of not doing that enough because I'm always looking for ways to grow. But instead of focusing on what's still undone, I want to shift my focus to gratitude. Lord, thank you for today. I trust you with tomorrow. So once again, the three steps are number one, ask God what is today's assignment. Number two, remind yourself of what's true when fear creeps in. Number three, end each day with gratitude. So if you're feeling overwhelmed, let's take a deep breath together and ask, What's one thing I can do today. One small step toward what God is calling me to. And then I release the outcome, and I rest in Him. Trust that He's working, even when you're not. That is it for today, my friend.
