Now, let’s get into today’s episode: “Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

What You Will Learn
In this episode, we will explore the age-old question, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” We’ll dive into what the Bible says about suffering, goodness, and trusting God even when life doesn’t make sense. You’ll hear personal reflections and biblical insights on how we can find peace, even when we don’t have all the answers.

Key Takeaways
• We don’t always get answers to our suffering, and that’s okay. Peace is found in trusting God, not in understanding.
• Suffering isn’t a sign of punishment—it’s part of the human experience.
• God’s faithfulness is unwavering, and He is present in our pain.
• Instead of asking “Why?”, we can ask, “What is God teaching me?” and “How is He shaping me through this?”

Welcome to Curious for Christ. Welcome back. I'm so glad you're here. Before we dive in, I want to share a quick update. Starting next week, I'll be releasing just one episode per week instead of two. I've recently stepped back into real estate and I'm so excited to be working with a great team of successful professionals. This podcast has been such a grounding force for me. It helped me align my heart with Christ and trust his guidance in every step, including this new season. And while I'm adjusting my schedule, my priority remains the same to put God first, both for myself and for you. So I'm still here and I can't wait to continue these conversations with you. Now let's get into today's episode. Why do bad things happen to good people? Welcome to Curious for Christ. Do you ever find yourself lying awake at night, wondering about God's plan for your life? Maybe you wake up with big dreams, but feel unsure where to start or what your next step should be. If you're curious about exploring your faith and finding purpose, then you've come to the right place. Hi, I'm Alexandra. I too felt lost, unsure of the direction my life was taking. I yearned to understand my purpose and have someone guide me. But I kept telling myself I was too busy, the timing wasn't right, and my lack of clarity prevented me from being consistent, until I found Christ. He brought peace into my life and revealed the way to find purpose, by anchoring myself In this podcast, we'll journey together exploring the Bible to gain a deeper understanding of Him and cultivate your own personal relationship with Christ. So open up your Bible, put in those earbuds and listen up because God is speaking to you. He is making everything new and you don't want to miss it. Let's get started. So why do we ask, why is this happening to me? When life falls apart, our first instinct is to ask, Why? Because we want life to make sense, but behind that question is often a desire for control. And let me explain what I mean by that. If we can understand, then maybe we can prevent suffering. Maybe we can fix it. Maybe we can make sense of the chaos. But here's the truth, we were never meant to have full control. Proverbs 3 verses 5 through 6 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. Isaiah 55 verses 8 through 9 says, My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For so long, I just wanted answers. I've wrestled with this question, and in many ways, set my ground on wanting clarity. And recently, a friend of mine went through something heartbreaking. Her childhood friend was pregnant, and everything seemed perfect, until suddenly, complications arose. And the baby is now in intensive care. It is devastating. Moments like that make you realize how little control we have. An innocent baby, a mother who did everything right. Why does suffering happen when it doesn't make sense? And I felt that deeply in my own life. I didn't choose to lose my mother so young. I didn't choose the life I had, the struggles I faced. And for a long time, that weighed on me. It felt like God was pressing on me, asking me to trust him, even when nothing made sense. So, this is what I learned. First, we don't always get answers. And we don't have to, because real peace isn't found in understanding. It's found in trusting God. God is good. If he doesn't give you answers, it means that it's something else that you need right now. That's how we trust God. And we take a step back. This question Why do bad things happen to good people also assumes that there is a clear division between good and bad people. But Jesus challenged that very thinking. This is what the Bible says about goodness. Romans 3 verse 10 says, There is no one righteous. not even one. Mark 10 verse 18 says no one is good except God alone. In Matthew 5 verse 45 says God causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. This doesn't mean that suffering is meaningless, and it absolutely doesn't mean that God doesn't care. In fact, the opposite is true. God is faithful in our suffering. He is present. He cares deeply about our pain, and he never stops pursuing us. Psalm 34 verse 18 says the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. God allows both blessing and hardship, not because He is indifferent, but because He sees the bigger picture. He is always working for our good, even when we can't see it yet. God's faithfulness is not dependent on our circumstances, it is dependent on his unchanging character. In other words, we don't need to understand to have peace. When we suffer, we want answers, right? But the truth is understanding won't always bring peace. Sometimes we'll understand later. Sometimes we never will. And that's okay. Because peace isn't found in the answers we will find or not. It's found in God. Job never got an explanation for his suffering. But he found peace when he encountered God. As we see in Job 38. Joseph was sold into slavery, betrayed by family, but later he saw that what was meant for evil, God meant for good. Genesis 50 verse 20. Also Paul, instead of removing his suffering, God told Paul, My grace is sufficient for you. That alone is enough. 2nd Corinthians 12 verses 9 through 10. Also, God doesn't ask us to suppress our emotions. In fact, He wants us to bring them to Him. There's many biblical examples of honest prayers. Psalm 13 verse 1, How long, O Lord, will you forget me forever? Lamentations 3 verses 22 through 23, Jeremiah pours out grief but clings to God's faithfulness. Also Jesus on the cross in Matthew 27 verse 46, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? But the key is, we don't stay in our despair. Once we've poured out our hearts, we make room for God's peace. I also challenge you to shift the question, instead of asking why, we can ask what is God teaching me? How is He shaping me through this? Where is He at work in my life right now? When we shift our posture, suffering doesn't become meaningless. It becomes a tool for growth, for faith, and deeper intimacy with God. There is a purpose behind, and that is what brings hope. Because it's not that it happened to us, it's basically happening for us, to grow closer to him. Even when life feels unfair, God is still in control. I want to encourage you during those difficult seasons that you may be facing, or you just ended and want to make sense of, or you are about to enter. Even when life feels unfair, God is still in control, and He is still good. Romans 8, verse 28, says, All things work together for good for those who love God. Philippians 4 verses 6 through 7, The peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. And John 16 verse 33 says, In this world you will have trouble, but take heart. I have overcome the world. So, I want to close by saying this. This week, when you face something hard, notice how you respond. Do you ask why? Or do you ask, what is God doing? Do you try to control or do you surrender? Do you hold on to your emotions or do you bring them fully to God? When we control, we also will feel more anxiety. When we surrender, that's when peace comes in. God isn't asking us to have all the answers. That's his job. He knows it all. He is asking us to trust him, and that's enough. I hope this helps you. It is really about taking hold of your thoughts, making them captive to Christ. It's about Being the leader of your own heart emotions and thoughts. It really is about mindset and self control, which you can have. If you seek God, and you live by his spirit, the fruit is more love, more peace, more joy, more self control. And that is beyond whatever you may be facing it's always available. So this is it for today, my friend. Thank you so much for listening.
