79. Q&A: What Would Life Be Like If God Was a Priority?

Alexandra Graff-Alvarez

In this episode of Curious for Christ, we’re painting a picture of what shifts when we truly prioritize God. We often feel scattered, anxious, and overwhelmed—but is that how life was meant to be? When God is at the center, everything changes. Peace replaces pressure. Faith conquers fear. Purpose overtakes busyness. We see our struggles through His eyes, and life no longer feels like chaos.

Together, we’ll explore how aligning our daily lives with God’s design brings lasting peace, order, and joy. We’ll reflect on key scriptures, ask the hard questions, and consider how to step into the life God intended for us.

What Shifts When God is First?
Peace Over Pressure – No more striving, just trust in His plan. (Matthew 6:33)
Faith Over Fear – Bold steps replace hesitation. (2 Timothy 1:7)
• Purpose Over Busyness – Work becomes an offering, not a burden. (Ephesians 2:10)
Authentic Relationships – Love freely, set boundaries without guilt. (1 John 4:18)
A Renewed Mindset – See success, struggles, and time through His perspective. (Romans 12:2)

Key Scriptures to Meditate On:
• Matthew 6:33 – “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
• Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God.”
• Jeremiah 29:11 – “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”
• Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest…”
• Ephesians 2:10 – “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Reflection Questions:
• What would shift in your life if God was truly first?
• Where do you find yourself getting distracted or sidetracked?
• What’s currently pulling you away from walking closely with Him?
• How can you take one step today toward aligning your life with God’s priorities?

Welcome back to Curious for Christ. I love to dive deep into the intersection of faith and real life issues. And today is no exception. I will be answering a question that I know many of us are wrestling with. What happens when God truly takes center stage in our lives? We all feel that pull for a deeper connection with God, yet, the busyness of life always seems to get in the way, right? Anxiety, past hurts, that overwhelming feeling of always being on the go. We long for those quiet moments with God, whether it's sitting at the beach. For me it would be the beach since I live in South Florida. Or hiking in the mountains, or just soaking in the peace of nature, but somehow those moments are hard to prioritize. So let's hit pause for a moment and imagine together what life would actually look like if God was at the center. Welcome to Curious for Christ. Do you ever find yourself lying awake at night, wondering about God's plan for your life? Maybe you wake up with big dreams, but feel unsure where to start or what your next step should be. If you're curious about exploring your faith and finding purpose, then you've come to the right place. Hi, I'm Alexandra. I too felt lost, unsure of the direction my life was taking. I yearned to understand my purpose and have someone guide me. But I kept telling myself I was too busy, the timing wasn't right, and my lack of clarity prevented me from being consistent, until I found Christ. He brought peace into my life and revealed the way to find purpose, by anchoring myself In this podcast, we'll journey together exploring the Bible to gain a deeper understanding of Him and cultivate your own personal relationship with Christ. So open up your Bible, put in those earbuds and listen up because God is speaking to you. He is making everything new and you don't want to miss it. Let's get started. Imagine waking up, not to the blare of an alarm and the immediate rush of responsibilities. but with a sense of peace. Instead of your mind instantly flooding with worries, traffic, emails, difficult conversation, you start your day with quiet stillness, just you and God. Psalm 46 verse 10 says, Be still and know that I am God. This isn't about adding another task to your already full to do list. It's about setting the tone for your life. It's about recognizing that even the most productive person needs to pause, breathe, and connect with the source of life itself. So often, we feel lost. We feel unsure of our purpose. But Jeremiah 29 verse 11 reminds us. For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future. When God is a priority, life no longer feels random. You start to see it as a journey orchestrated by a loving Creator. He has a purpose for you. He has a unique calling that only you can fulfill. And when you prioritize Him, you begin to see life through His eyes. Now think about those moments in nature when you felt closest to God. That overwhelming sense of awe that you had, the feeling that you're a small part of something magnificent. That is a glimpse of what life can be like when God is your focus. This closeness, this peace was always God's design. From the very beginning in the Garden of Eden, his plan was for us to walk with him, to be fully known, fully seen, fully loved, and at peace. And everything he is doing today, even through our struggles, is leading us back to that original design. God is restoring this entire world and us, to what it was meant to be. Think about that. And we don't always see it that way, do we? Because when we're caught up in daily stress, we think our struggles are pointless. We're trying to fix them one by one, and without a purpose, without any direction. But they're not pointless. Every hardship, every delay, every setback, every challenge, it's all part of a greater restoration. Instead of being a setback, it's an opportunity. to see God. You can choose. You can choose in those moments to pause and see God and walk with Him. God is working to bring us back to a life of peace with Him. That is His work in our life. And here's the key. You don't have to do it perfectly you don't have to worry about making all the right decisions. Your job is simply to walk with him, moment by moment. Matthew 6, verse 33 says, Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. That's it. That's the one thing you need to do well. Seek Him first. Everything else, that is God's responsibility. He's restoring everything to its perfect original design. And when you're stressed and anxious, you're taking on your shoulders way more than you're meant to, my friend. But when we don't prioritize God, we miss this bigger picture. We get so caught up in the details, the spilled coffee, the frustrating email, the lost opportunity, the argument with a loved one. That we don't see what God is actually doing. Think about a typical day. You wake up already behind, rushing to get out the door. The kids are late, traffic is awful, your inbox is overflowing. By the time you get home, you're exhausted, and the cycle starts all over again. But where was God in all of that? And yet Acts 17 tells us that He's never far from us. He's been there waiting for you all along, even if you didn't notice. But when you prioritize Him, you start to see Him in the midst of it all. You become more patient, more at peace, more able to handle life's pressures with grace. Because you're operating from a place of trust, not just reaction. Jesus gives us this invitation in Matthew 11 verses 28 through 30. Come to me. All you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Prioritizing God doesn't mean your problems disappear, but it does mean you're no longer carrying them alone. It means trusting that he is in control, even when things feel chaotic. Think about David facing Goliath, the giant. He wasn't strong in his own strength, yet he defeated the giant because he walked. And that same strength is available to you when God is your priority. And what about those moments when you feel like you're not enough, you might ask, when you wonder if you're really capable of the life God has called you to, well, Ephesians 2 verse 10 tells us, For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Friend, you are not a mistake. You are not defined by your past or your struggles. You are God's masterpiece. Do you hear? You are God's masterpiece. You were created with a purpose, and when you prioritize Him, you begin to see yourself as He sees you. Loved, cherished, and capable of amazing things. So, what shifts when God takes center stage? Let's go over some points. There's peace over pressure. No more striving, just trust in His plan. There's faith over fear. Both steps, replace hesitation. There's purpose over busyness. Work becomes an offering, not a burden. There's authentic relationships. Love freely. You set boundaries without guilt. A new mindset, you start seeing success and struggles and time through his perspective. When God renews your mind, like it says in Romans 12 verse 2, everything changes. You see provision differently. You trust that God is your provider, not just your own striving. You redefine success. You measure life by faithfulness, not external results. You embrace trials with purpose. You understand that struggles refine you. They don't define you. And you live with eternal focus. You make decisions based on God's will, who sees the whole picture, not just short term gains. This is the life that God designed for you, one of trust, of surrender, and purpose. So let me ask you, what stood out from this picture of a life where God is first? The one that I just depicted. And where do you get sidetracked? What's pulling you away from walking closely with Him? Think about it. Be honest. Don't pull back. Because God sees it all. He knows it already. And you're the one suffering. And that hurts Him as much as it hurts you. Pray about it and make the changes to align your ways to God's higher ways for your life. And if you don't know where to start or if you've had moments of breakthrough but found yourself drifting again, you're not alone. And sometimes, The struggles come from a lack of Biblical grounding, of knowledge, sometimes you just need accountability. Someone to walk alongside you, to help you build a routine, to deepen your faith, and then sometimes it's all of it, and that's okay. If that's you I'd love to hear from you.
